Rate of force production (how fast your muscles can produce force) is more important than muscle hypertrophy (growth).
An increase in muscle growth will not (by itself) increase rate of force production. You have to train fast in order to increase speed, agility and quickness! Improving rate of force production helps everyone, not just athletes.
